Preparing a business plan

Creating a meaningful business plan is not only essential if you want to convince a third party, such as a bank, to invest in your business, it is also important for you to formalise your plans for the future. You don't have to write a book - merely an outline of what you want to achieve and how you intend to do it.

Done properly, the business plan can be used as a valuable tool to refer to whilst your business develops. Don't be disturbed if things change so that your business plan, at least partly, becomes out-of-date. It is not meant to be "written in stone". In fact, it should be used as a "living document" to be updated and adapted as events change. After all, we live in a dynamic business world where change has become the norm. You should be flexible so that you can adapt to these changes.
